Daniel A. Burns, DDS, MD
Once a Hoosier, always a Hoosier!
Dr. Daniel Burns was born and raised in Elkhart, Indiana. After graduating from Elkhart Central High School in 1987, Dr. Burns attended Indiana University in Bloomington. In 1993, Dr. Burns graduated top of his class from IU School of Dentistry in Indianapolis.
Upon graduation from IU School of Dentistry, Dr. Burns moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, to complete his advanced residency training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Louisiana State University School of Dentistry, an internationally-renown oral & maxillofacial surgery program. This intensive six-year residency included medical school rotations in general surgery, anesthesia, and ear/nose/throat surgery, and graduation from Louisiana State University Medical School in 1996. After completion of all this training, Dr. Burns immediately took and passed the rigorous exam and board interview to become a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
Upon completion of all this training and experience at IU School of Dentistry, LSU Medical School, and LSU School of Dentistry Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency, Dr. Burns and his wife returned to his hometown of Elkhart to establish his practice and replant his family roots. Dr. Burns and his wife Linda, a dentist in South Bend, have three children: Sarah, Ian, and Regan. All three kids are IU alumni and in the healthcare world, including two who are pursuing a career in dentistry. They all enjoy tailgating and attending IU football and basketball games as a family. When not in the office, Dr. Burns enjoys everything having to do with water. In his younger years, he could often be found waterskiing on the St. Joe River or fishing on its banks. His fishing, boating and waterskiing days are spent throughout Michiana these days. Dr. Burns is an avid fly fisherman as well, seeking the rivers of western Montana each summer with his father-in-law and his son. Even Dr. Burns’ dog Tito loves playing in the water with him. During the winter months he heads out west to enjoy snow skiing with his family and friends.
